FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What is NHS Teen Idol?
It’s a national music competition that combines a vocal performance with an educational workshop
designed to help young people interested in the different aspects of a music career.
2. What will you experience in the 3-day event?
The event is a variety of musical, educational as well as social events. You will also receive
valuable information about a music career that may change your life forever.
3. Where will the event take place and when?
It is being held in the beautiful “state of the art” Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey located
in the New York City Metropolitan area. The Cultural & Entertainment Center of the World on June 25th, 26th and 27th 2010!
4. Who is eligible?
You must be going into 8th grade – 12th grade or a 2010 graduate.
5. If I sign up for the three-day event, what should I bring?
Bring a note pad to use for the seminars and workshops. Many things will be said to help you in your music journey. Names of industry managersrs, agents, colleges, recording producers, do’s and don’ts of the business and educational information.
Also, don’t forget your CD’s you wish to sing along with during the semi-finals and finals. (Check schedule

6. How do I get invited to The Event?
The First Way - When you sign up on the web, you will have the choice of the 3-day event ($175 ) or just come to the prelimary audition( $45). (Read schedule for explanation)
Once you sign up on the web site and sign the wavier you will be notified. You will be invited to Bergen Community College, Paramus , N.J. You will then be singing in the preliminaries.
The second way – Once you sign up on the web for the audition ($45) You may audition for the preliminaries on the web site by posting a video of your singing. The judges will notify you to come to Bergen Community College to be in the Quarter-finals if you qualify.(check Schedule)
If you sign up for the 3 day workshop, you automactically are in the quarter -finals.
7. How do I get to go free?
Two ways . one is you are sponsored by a local business or Producers invite you.. The second way is to put your video on the website and have people vote for your performance. If you rececevive the most votes, you goes free to the three day workshop ($175 )
8. What do the 1st place male and female win?
They will receive a recording opportunity and exposure on the NHSCA National Television Network which is broadcasted to 18,000 high schools and on the NHSCA National Radio Show. In addition, New for 2010 Winners, $1000.00 (one thousand dollars) Cash will be awarded to the Female Winner and $1000.00 (one thousand dollars) Cash will be awarded to the Male Winner!
9. What does everyone receive who sign up for the three-day event?
Meet up close and personal, the top Icons in the Entertainment Industry. Experience the educational opportunities that can help you live your dream of having a music career. An opportunity of signing with management and/or agencies that can further your music career.
May receive National television exposure at anytime during the event.
10. What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing and bring clothing for the look you want for the auditions. Remember, how you dress is very important. It should tell us something about your personality. Do not wear clothing that would reveal tattoos or midriffs, and no short skirts or shorts. Clothing items should not display logos or names of any kind. They should also not bear the name or likeness of a celebrity, living or dead. If you do wear such clothing, you may be required to remove it, turn it inside out, or change completely."
11. What time do I report for the 3-day event? ($175)
Friday, June 25th at 11:00 am
12. What time do I report if I’m only coming to sing in the quarterfinals if invited? ($45)
Saturday, June 26th . (check Schedule)
13. What should I sing at the auditions and how is it scheduled?
For the preliminaries, sing any song a cappella of your choice in any style, lasting from 30 seconds to a minute. Pick the part of the song that showcases your voice best, you don't have to start at the beginning. After the preliminaries, you may be invited to return for the quarterfinals on Saturday, June 26th. At that time, you will sing again, same rules as before. At the semi-final and final performances, should you make it there, you will sing a complete song of your choosing. It must be sung using a CD with karaoke backup, instrumental and background voices only, no lead singer. You must bring up a backup, duplicate CD, check Rules #9.
14. Can I use the same song through-out the audition process?
Yes!
15. Can a parent or legal guardian stay to watch?
They can stay and watch all and any part of the events. Check the schedule. There is a fee for some of the events. Participates with a wristband are free of charge.
16. Can you take pictures or use movie cameras?
Yes, with the exception that flash cameras cannot be used while a competitor is singing. It can be a distraction and cause lack of concentration.
17. What should I expect from the judges?
They will all be highly qualified music professionals. They will be very fair and give you a written critique on what you did well and what could be improved. There is no “Simon” element in the National High Teen Idol event.
18. Do I need to stay for the whole event?
This is your choice. If you’re here for the 3-day event ($175), you should stay for the finals even if you do not get chosen. You should continue to be part of the musical voyage. If you’re here for just the competition ($45), you too should stay for the finals if you don’t get chosen.
19. What do you do for food?
There are numerous restaurants in the Paramus area. You will have time between events to be with family, to enjoy the area and have good food. Only water may be brought into the event area.
