Excerpts from my recent interview with Catalina Gaglioti...

WOW! Ms.Catalina Gaglioti, better known as “Cat” or “Bean” to family and friends, resides in Westfield, NJ and was our NHS Teen Idol Female Vocal Winner for 2008’s Event!
Her earliest memory of performing was when she was in the second grade. She was singing a solo in a variety show and was so nervous that they had to push her on stage. But when the lights came up she just let loose and starting singing. It was like a rush, she gets that every time she performs now.
Her taste in music is really varied. Her favorite artists are Taylor Swift, The Kooks, and Regina Spektor. Her favorite song is Journey’s, Don’t Stop Believing.
Her parents told her that when she was little (about 3 or 4) she would sing everywhere she went. If there was a group of people she would just start belting something out. At restaurants, at the park, anywhere!
Right now she’s starting a music campaign where she’ll be making some appearances at regional TV shows and radio talk shows. She hopes to get her music out there for people to hear. She also has an online campaign where fans can follow her on: MySpace, face book , fan page, and her website www.officialcatalina.com . Some of her long term goals include finding a supportive label to help her branch out and extend her fan base, and college. Her dream school is Julliard.
Catalina’s best experience at The NHS Teen Idol Event was meeting professionals in the business who really want to help young aspiring singers like herself. Another highlight was meeting other performers from around the country. They still keep in touch and update one another on what they’re doing with their careers.
I asked Catalina who her biggest influence was, she answered “My parents are my biggest influence. They are always encouraging me to follow my dreams and they never put a limit on what they think I can do. Having that constant support has been my motivation throughout this entire process.”
She won her first vocal competition when she was 11 where along with 1st place, she was awarded the audience choice for favorite performance. Last year she won a nomination for Papermill Rising Star, and although she didn’t win the award, she won a scholarship to attend Papermill’s Summer Conservatory. And of course, NHS Teen Idol, which she is most proud of! She also plays the harp, flute and piano!
When I asked her how her experience in the recording studio was she said “The recording studio was so much fun. I had a large say in what the end product was going to sound like. I’m so happy with the way the album turned out and I think it reflects a lot of my personality.”
Catalina’s CD Release Party is on March 5, 2010 !!! I encourage EVERYONE to go out and buy one! It’s Fabulous!
